About CosmoLabs

At the intersection
of research, targeted advocacy, and spatial practice.

CosmoLabs founded out of real-world engagement with the environmental and social impacts of industrial systems. Initially as a research and design initiative, we began in Turkey with a focus on the environmental and social impacts of industrial systems. Early work explored how waste, land use, and local economies interact — particularly in underserved and ecologically strained regions.

The real sustainability
must be both systemic and place-based.

We believe that sustainability can’t be delivered through abstract targets or isolated interventions. Real change emerges when circular economy frameworks, data-driven innovation, and systems-level thinking are applied to specific social, ecological, and material contexts. We work to understand the full picture — from resource flows and stakeholder dynamics to land, labor, and legacy — in order to design transitions that are not only scalable, but grounded, just, and regenerative

Built to operate
where the need for change meets the tools to make it happen.

As our inquiries deepened, we realized that these challenges were not local anomalies, but reflections of a global, systemic crisis — one that required solutions capable of working across geographies, sectors, and disciplines. Now based in Berlin, CosmoLabs operates across the Turkish, German, and broader European contexts — aligning our work with major policy frameworks like the European Green Deal, Horizon Europe and Circular Economy Action Plan. We specialize in helping clients navigate the complexities of environmental and social impact by offering:

+ Circular transition strategies
+ Systemic impact assessments
+ Stakeholder engagement for just and resilient change

With one foot in emerging landscapes and one in policy-driven ecosystems.

Why now?

In the face of a deepening global ecological and social crisis, the urgency for systemic change has never been greater. Germany and the European Union are accelerating their climate agendas — through legislation, funding instruments, and ambitious policy frameworks — creating both pressure and opportunity across every sector.

This moment demands more than vision. It requires implementation. CosmoLabs was built for this transition — grounded in real-world systems and guided by the principles of circularity, regeneration, and justice. We operate across industry, urban infrastructure, and agriculture, helping public and private actors move from strategic intent to place-based, systems-level action. From concept to implementation, we support the design of futures that are not just sustainable — but transformative.

Founder’s Perspective

Tunca Beril Basaran is an urban designer and environmental systems strategist with a cross-disciplinary background spanning Turkey, Germany, and Italy. Her work connects spatial planning, sustainability transitions, and systems innovation — with a focus on how environmental, material, and socio-economic systems can be reimagined for long-term resilience.

She holds a degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Middle East Technical University (METU) and a master’s in Urban Design from the Technical University of Berlin. Her academic foundation is complemented by professional experience in sectors including biotechnology, agriculture, and digital asset management, where she applied systems thinking to diverse operational and regulatory challenges.

She has worked with institutions such as TU Berlin, the Fraunhofer Institut, and EIT Climate-KIC, contributing to projects on urban metabolism, circular construction, and land-based regeneration. Her approach integrates data-driven decision-making, spatial strategy, and stakeholder engagement — supporting initiatives that operate across industries and geographies.

This interdisciplinary path reflects a commitment to enabling sustainability transitions that are strategic, grounded, and responsive to both local conditions and global imperatives.
